IQ Option demo account: start here

Every IQ Option account comes with a demo account holding $10,000 of virtual money. You need no deposit to use it. The demo refills for free and never expires. It uses the same prices and tools as the real account, and demo profits can't be withdrawn.

To switch between demo and real, click the balance at the top right. No account yet? Follow how to sign up. For the differences between demo and real accounts, see account types.

What the demo can't teach you

With no real money at stake, decisions feel easier, and that changes once your own money is at risk. Practise on the demo until you can follow your own rules for a few weeks, then move to a real account.

Your first option trade, step by step

On a Malaysian account the option ticket runs from top to bottom: asset tab, expiry clock, amount in RM, payout, then the "Higher" (green) and "Lower" (red) buttons. Do these steps on the demo first.

  1. Log in and switch to your demo account: click the balance at the top right and choose the demo.
  2. Choose an asset from the tabs at the top of the ticket.
  3. Set the expiry with the clock on the ticket.
  4. Enter the amount in RM. The minimum is RM4 to RM5 depending on the asset and the maximum is RM20,000. The ticket also offers quick amounts from RM30 to RM90.
  5. Check the payout shown before you buy. In our check, "AI Europe" showed 89%. The payout changes by asset and over time.
  6. Press "Higher" (green) if you expect the price to be above the entry price at expiry, or "Lower" (red) if you expect it to be below.
  7. Wait for the expiry. If you win, you get your stake back plus the payout. If you lose, you lose the stake.

Repeat this on the demo until it feels routine. On a real account the same ticket spends real ringgit, and a losing trade costs the whole amount you entered.

Getting to know the trading screen

The chart fills most of the screen. The asset tabs run along the top, and the option ticket is where you set up and place a trade.

The chart

The chart shows the price of the selected asset over time. The horizontal axis is time, with the latest on the right, and the vertical axis is price. You can switch between four chart types: Line, Candles, Bars and Heikin-Ashi. A candle tells you more than a line, because each one shows the open, high, low and close for its period.

The asset selector

The tabs at the top of the ticket switch between assets such as forex pairs, crypto, stocks, commodities and indices. A major pair like EUR/USD usually moves more steadily than an exotic pair or a single stock, which makes it a good choice while you practise.

The trade panel

On the option ticket you set the expiry with the clock and enter the amount in RM. Check the payout shown before you buy, then press "Higher" (green) or "Lower" (red) to match the direction you expect. The payout is fixed at the moment you open the trade.

The candle period selector

This setting decides how much time each candle covers. Very short periods, such as a few seconds or 1 minute, show mostly random noise rather than a real trend. A 5-minute period is a common starting point: the trend is visible, and the trade finishes within the same session.

First exercise Open EUR/USD on a 5-minute candle chart and watch it for 20 minutes without placing a trade. Notice which way price moves overall and how it moves in waves rather than straight lines.

Reading price direction: what to look at

No signal tells you for certain where price will go next. What you can judge is probability: from current conditions, is price more likely to rise or fall over the next few minutes?

Trend

Look at the last 30 to 60 minutes of the chart. Is price rising, falling or moving sideways? A steady trend tends to continue more often than it reverses at once, so trading in its direction filters out trades against momentum that have no reason behind them.

Three candlestick patterns worth knowing

These three patterns are common and easy to spot, and each carries a real signal. Learn them before you add any indicator to your chart.

Doji

Indecision / possible reversal

The open and close are almost the same, so the body is tiny and the wicks are long. The market is undecided. A Doji after a long trend suggests momentum is fading and price may turn. It is most reliable at support or resistance.

Bullish Engulfing

Bullish momentum signal

A large green candle covers the whole body of the red candle before it. Sellers were in control, then buyers came in harder. It works best after a downtrend or at support. The reverse, a red candle covering a green one, points down.

Bullish Pin Bar

Lower prices rejected

The body is small and near the top, with a very long lower wick. Price tried to fall hard, was pushed back and closed near its high. The long wick shows buyers beating sellers. It carries the most weight at support.

Support and resistance

Support is a price level where price has stopped falling and bounced up several times. Draw a horizontal line where the lows cluster. Resistance is the opposite: a level where price has repeatedly stopped rising and turned back. The patterns above give their strongest signals at one of these levels and much weaker ones in the middle of open space.

Indicator overload

You don't need any technical indicators at the start. Each one gives its own signal, and when several disagree, which happens often, you have no rule for deciding which to follow. Learn to read the plain candle chart and the three patterns first, then add one indicator at a time.

The expiry problem: why you can be right and still lose

An option only cares where price is at the moment of expiry. What price does on the way there doesn't count.

What this looks like in practice

You open a Higher option on EUR/USD at 1.0850 with a 5-minute expiry. Price jumps to 1.0875 and your trade shows a profit for 4 minutes and 45 seconds. With 15 seconds left, a data release drops price to 1.0835. The option expires at 1.0835, below your entry price, and you lose the stake. Price sat above your entry for almost the whole trade, yet the result was a loss. That is not a platform error. It is how options are designed.

What this means for how you trade

Avoid opening trades just before scheduled high-impact news, such as US employment data, central bank interest rate decisions or inflation reports. Check an economic calendar before you trade. These releases can move price sharply within seconds and turn a winning trade into a loss. Also avoid very short expiries while you are learning. At 30 seconds to 1 minute, the result is mostly random movement. A longer expiry gives price more room to follow the direction you read.

Digital, Binary and Blitz options

All three show the payout before you buy, but the payout is set in different ways.

Type Expiry Payout
DigitalChosen on the ticketYou choose a direction and a strike price. The payout depends on how far the strike is from the current price, and it is shown before you buy.
Binary30 seconds to 5 minutes, plus longer expiriesYou predict higher or lower at expiry. If you win you get your stake back plus the payout, usually 70% to 90%. If you lose, you lose the stake.

Work out your break-even win rate

The win rate you need to break even is 1 ÷ (1 + payout). At an 89% payout that is 52.9% of your trades, and at 80% it is 55.6%. Below that rate you lose money over time, so winning more than half your trades can still lose money.

Your first CFD trade

Try these steps on the demo first.

  1. Choose an asset, for example a forex pair or a stock.
  2. Enter your investment, the money taken from your balance.
  3. Set the leverage, or keep the default.
  4. If you want, set Take Profit and Stop Loss.
  5. Press "Buy" if you expect the price to rise, or "Sell" if you expect it to fall.

Close the trade from the chart or from your portfolio.

Three numbers matter on the CFD ticket: Investment, Leverage and Volume. Volume = Investment × Leverage.

Leverage multiplies profit and loss IQ Option's own example: leverage ×100 on a $50 investment gives a $5,000 position. Profit and loss are both worked out on the $5,000. A small price move against you can take a large part of your investment.

Maximum leverage

AssetMaximum leverage
Major forex pairs×5,000
JPY pairs×1,000
Other forex pairs×500

These are maximums. You can choose a lower leverage, and a beginner should start low.

CFD margin modes, Stop Loss and Take Profit

Simple and Advanced margin

Simple mode is isolated: each trade has its own margin. Advanced mode is cross: your free balance backs all your trades.

Advanced mode puts the whole account at risk In Advanced mode one bad trade can hit your whole account. A beginner should use Simple mode.

Stop Loss and Take Profit

Both close the trade automatically at a level you set: Take Profit when your profit reaches it, Stop Loss when your loss does.

What a CFD costs

A CFD has two costs. The spread, the gap between the buy and sell price, is paid when the trade opens. The overnight swap is usually 0.01% to 0.5% a day, up to 1.7% in extreme conditions, and triple on Friday to cover the weekend. There is no commission.

What OTC means

OTC assets, marked "(OTC)", are quotes IQ Option provides when the regular market is closed. The prices are based on data collected from IQ Option's liquidity partners, so an OTC chart can differ from charts elsewhere.

Risk management for beginners

These rules limit how fast you can lose money. Risk a small part of your balance on each trade, use Stop Loss on CFDs and avoid martingale, which means doubling the stake after a loss. A short losing run turns into a large loss quickly.

The 2% rule

Do not risk more than 2% of your balance on a single trade. The rule keeps you in the game through losing streaks, which every trader meets. At 2% per trade, about 82% of your balance is still there after 10 losses in a row. Many traders use 1% to 2%. If 2% of your balance is below the minimum trade, your balance is small for this rule. Practise longer on the demo instead of raising the stake.

Position size calculator: 2% rule

Drag to adjust (1% to 5%). Starting at 2% is a sensible default.
Maximum stake per trade

Daily stop rules

Fix these rules before you use real money. They take the decision out of the moment when emotions run highest.

  1. Three losses in a row: stop for the day, no exceptions. A third straight loss is a signal to review, not to bet more.
  2. Down 5% or more of your balance in one day: close everything and stop. Set the daily loss limit as an amount before you start. The market opens again tomorrow, but the same money may not come back.
  3. Daily profit target reached: stop. Greed is what turns a winning day into a losing one.

Warning signs you are trading on emotion

Trading on emotion is the quickest way to lose an account. Run through this checklist before and during a session. If three or more apply, stop trading.

Common beginner mistakes

Chasing losses with martingale

Martingale means doubling the stake after a loss to win the money back fast. Each trade is independent of the one before it. A losing streak does not make the next trade more likely to win, and bigger stakes only drain the account faster.

Trading without a plan

A simple plan is enough as long as you write it before you start. For example: EUR/USD, 5-minute trend, RM5 per trade, at most 10 trades a day, stop if you are down RM25. A written plan keeps you from deciding under pressure in the middle of a session.

Trading too many assets at once

Each asset has its own swings, its own reaction to news and its own usual range. If you jump between four assets in one session, you know none of them well. Pick one or two and trade them until your results become consistent.

Skipping the demo

The demo uses the same prices and tools as the real account. There is no good reason to test an untried approach with real money when the same test on the demo costs nothing.

Treating a small sample as a working strategy

Winning 7 of 10 trades in one day proves nothing. In a small sample, random results look like a pattern. Judge an approach over at least 100 to 200 trades before you trust it.

IQ Option robots, signals and strategies

IQ Option lets you add or write your own indicator scripts. High-frequency bots built to abuse the platform get accounts closed.

We found no official source that supports third-party "robots", signal groups or "sure-win" formulas. Treat them as high risk. No tool guarantees profit, and a seller who promises fixed profits is a warning sign.

Can you make money on IQ Option?

Yes, profits on a real account can be withdrawn once your account is verified. Winning more often than you lose takes consistency, and you can lose all the money you deposit.

The maths

With an 80% payout on a RM30 trade, you win RM24 or lose RM30. You need to win about 55.6% of trades to break even (1 ÷ 1.8), and at an 89% payout the figure is 52.9%. That looks achievable on paper, but in practice it takes a repeatable method and discipline over hundreds of trades. Try your own numbers in the break-even calculator above.

What decides the outcome

Your approach decides it. Traders who practise on the demo until they have a repeatable method, apply the 2% rule and follow the daily stop rules give themselves a realistic chance. Traders who skip the demo, raise stakes after losses and trade without a clear signal tend to lose their first deposit quickly. No method removes the risk of losing money.

Withdrawing your profits

The minimum withdrawal is RM10 by card or Volet and RM50 by bank or crypto. IQ Option approves a withdrawal within up to 3 business days, and for Maybank and CIMB the app then shows 1 to 24 hours. Verify your account before your first withdrawal and withdraw only to an account in your own name. The first withdrawal each calendar month is free and later ones cost 2% (maximum RM125). See how to withdraw from IQ Option, step by step.
